Hot-dipped galvanized steel sheets are excellent candidate for most processing techniques. Welding, torching, or abrasive sawing galvanized steel is not recommended without proper protection and adequate ventilation. Galvanized hot rolled steel, or mild steel, sheets have been dipped into a molten zinc coating, or zinc-iron alloy-coated (galvannealed) by the hot-dipped process (ASTM A653). Hot-dipped galvanize (HDG) can be identified by its crystallization pattern, also known as “spangle” on the surface of the material. Great corrosion resistance, excellent candidate for outdoor use or exposed environments. Common applications include HVAC, flashing, freezers, commercial and architectural uses, electrical boxes, enclosures and housings.
Galvanized Steel Sheet & Plates, are intended for use where greater corrosion protection is required without painting. A lower cost alternative to stainless steel, galvanized sheet and plates have a rust free protection for up to 30 years, while maintaining strength with a durable surface coating. There are stocks for many sizes in precut sizes, full mill sizes or we can hot dip virtually any size and quantity required for your welding or construction project.
Galvanized sheet / plate can be cut, machined or welded by common methods used for regular steel, but adequate ventilation should be used to avoid inhalation of fumes when heated. Sheared edges are not galvanized and can be treated with a cold galvanizing paint to maintain protection if desired.
